The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has granted DHA Energy Supply Company (DESCO) licenses to distribute electricity and supply solar power in DHA City Karachi, making it the first company in Pakistan to hold both approvals.

The licenses were formally handed over at a ceremony held at NEPRA headquarters in Islamabad, where NEPRA Member Maqsood Anwar presented them to DESCO officials.

The approvals authorize the company to develop and operate an electricity distribution network for DHA City Karachi while supplying power generated from solar and other approved sources.

According to DESCO, the company began pursuing the licenses in 2017, with the approvals marking the completion of a process that took nearly nine years.

DESCO also announced that the feasibility study for its planned grid station is almost complete, with construction expected to begin in early 2027.

The company further disclosed that it has signed a Power Acquisition Agreement (PAA) with Lucky Cement to procure electricity for its network.

DESCO said the licenses represent a key milestone in developing an independent power system for DHA City Karachi and will support the area’s future electricity requirements as development expands.
