Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the immediate deployment of the federal government’s newly established Sky 47 national data center across all federal institutions, marking a major step in Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda.
Chairing a meeting to review progress on the national digital policy framework, the prime minister said the centralized facility will serve as the primary repository for government data, replacing separate data centers operated by individual federal departments.
Officials said consolidating government data into a single platform is expected to reduce infrastructure costs, improve coordination among public institutions, and enhance the efficiency of digital services.
The prime minister also instructed authorities to convene the National Digital Commission at the earliest to strengthen coordination with provincial governments and other stakeholders on implementing the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025.
During the meeting, Shehbaz said the government’s digital transformation efforts should initially focus on key sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, utilities, housing, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to improve public service delivery.
According to officials, digital reforms are already underway in the energy, food, and several other sectors, with implementation planned across 14 additional priority areas. The initiative aims to modernize public institutions, improve economic productivity, and strengthen Pakistan’s competitiveness.
The briefing also highlighted plans to digitize the housing sector by assigning a unique identification number to every public and private property. For SMEs, the government intends to introduce a unified digital identity system to simplify business operations and encourage greater formalization of the economy.
The prime minister said the long-term objective is to enable citizens to access a wide range of government services—including identity verification, banking, healthcare, and property transactions—through a single digital identity platform.
