President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the imposition of emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The approval follows a federal cabinet decision on the province’s security situation and law and order concerns.
The move comes amid tensions between the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government over security and counterterrorism measures.
The federal government has raised concerns about the deteriorating security situation in K-P, where militant attacks remain a major challenge. The provincial government and the Centre have also disagreed over how to address the threat.
The decision marks a significant development in relations between Islamabad and the PTI-led administration in K-P.
