Google has officially opened its Pakistan office in Islamabad, with the company announcing a one-year free subscription to Google Gemini for Pakistani students.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the office on Tuesday during a meeting with Google Vice President for Global Affairs Wilson L. White. US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker was also present.
Shehbaz said Google’s local presence comes as Pakistan undergoes rapid digital transformation and creates opportunities for greater cooperation in technology and the digital economy.
White said the office opening was a major milestone for Google after more than a decade of investment and engagement in Pakistan.
He said Google’s plans support the government’s ambition to make Pakistan a $30 billion IT export hub.
According to White, Google’s activities have contributed more than Rs. 3.9 trillion in economic activity for Pakistani businesses and households over the past decade and supported more than 960,000 jobs.
He said Google will support Pakistan’s IT ambitions through investment in people, hardware manufacturing and local businesses.
Free Google Gemini for Pakistani Students
White announced that Google will provide free access to Gemini for one year to students in Pakistan.
He said Google has already helped upskill more than 1 million Pakistanis and emphasized the importance of developing local digital talent for Pakistan’s technology-driven growth.
Google has also expanded its hardware presence in Pakistan, with Chromebook manufacturing underway in Haripur.
The company completed its registration in Pakistan in 2025 and subsequently moved toward establishing its local office.
