A special court in Islamabad has granted temporary relief to Dr. Fazeela Abbasi in an ongoing money laundering investigation by restraining authorities from arresting her and extending her interim bail until April 20.

The hearing was conducted by Special Judge Central Humayun Dilawar, during which the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) submitted its challan in the case. As part of the investigation, the FIA had previously frozen a joint bank account held by Dr. Fazeela Abbasi and her brother, actor Hamza Ali Abbasi. During the proceedings, Dr. Fazeela also filed an application requesting the restoration of the frozen account.

The prosecution informed the court that although a written response had been submitted on behalf of the accused, she had not personally appeared before the court. Dr. Fazeela, however, maintained that she had attended multiple earlier hearings related to the matter.

Her counsel, Naeem Bukhari, advised her not to directly address the judge and informed the court that a previous decision rejecting bail had already been challenged before the high court.

The judge observed that interim bail in the case had been continuing for nearly three months and noted that the high court had directed the trial court to proceed with the matter while ensuring the accused cooperates with the investigation. The court subsequently ordered that Dr. Fazeela Abbasi should not be arrested until April 20 and directed her to join the investigation on the same date.
