Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has urged Pakistanis to verify requests for money before making online transfers, warning that fraudsters are impersonating family members and using fake illnesses to deceive victims.

Speaking alongside NCCIA Additional Director Atif, Naqvi said scammers were posing as nephews and other relatives to convince people to send them money. In some cases, fraudsters claim to be sick to make their requests more convincing.

He said numerous cases involving these tactics had emerged and called on cybercrime police to run public awareness campaigns to help people recognize such fraud.

Naqvi stressed that people should be cautious when someone requests money online, especially if they cannot confidently recognize the caller’s voice.

The warning highlights the importance of verifying a person’s identity before transferring money in response to an urgent request from someone claiming to be a relative.
