The Power Division has rejected a media report suggesting that the government has entered into a new agreement with an independent power producer (IPP), calling the claim incorrect.

In a statement, the Power Division spokesperson said the report published in Daily Jang did not reflect the facts.

The spokesperson said the government has already stopped entering into new IPP agreements or making commitments to purchase electricity from new projects under the Integrated Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP) 2025-35 and the planned competitive electricity market.

The Power Division also clarified that the Jamshoro Coal Power Plant is not an IPP. It was built by the Government of Pakistan with financing from the Asian Development Bank.

Construction of the plant began in 2018, while it started commercial operations in May 2025.

According to the spokesperson, presenting the plant’s commercial operation date as a new agreement with an IPP was incorrect and created a misleading impression.

The spokesperson also said the reporter did not seek clarification from the Power Division or representatives of the Jamshoro power plant before publishing the report.
