The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Punjab has arrested a 17-year-old student in Bahawalpur in connection with an alleged attempt to poison his father.

The agency said the teenager had sought information from an artificial intelligence (AI) system about preparing poison and later allegedly used that information in an attempt to harm his father.

The action was taken after the NCCIA received intelligence from abroad, following which Director NCCIA Punjab Husam bin Iqbal directed officials to investigate the case.

During the investigation, officials allegedly discovered a laboratory the teenager had established at his home. The suspect was reportedly influenced by the crime drama Breaking Bad.

According to the NCCIA, the teenager obtained chemical materials from Australia and Islamabad and used them to prepare a poisonous substance.

Investigators said the first attempt to poison his father was unsuccessful. The teenager allegedly sought further guidance from an AI system after the failed attempt.

The case has highlighted concerns about the possible misuse of AI by minors and the need for greater attention to children’s online activities.

The NCCIA is continuing its investigation into the incident.
