The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its appreciation against the US dollar on Monday, posting gains for the 187th consecutive trading day.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan’s exchange rate data, the rupee closed at Rs. 278.1728 per US dollar, strengthening by three paisas from the previous close of Rs. 278.2022.
The local currency started the week on a positive note amid improved global market sentiment following reports that the United States and Iran are expected to hold another round of talks later this week.
The rupee has now remained on an uninterrupted upward trend against the dollar for 187 days, equivalent to approximately six months and four days, with the appreciation streak dating back to December 25, 2025.
Other Currencies
Against major currencies, the rupee remained largely unchanged versus the UAE dirham, gaining 0.6 paisa, while it strengthened by 5.3 paisas against the Saudi riyal.
However, the local currency weakened against several other major currencies. It lost Rs. 1.39 against the euro, 68 paisas against the British pound, Rs. 1.17 against the Malaysian ringgit, 6 paisas against the Chinese yuan, and 52 paisas against the Canadian dollar.
The rupee was one of the few gainers against the Australian dollar, appreciating by 12 paisas during the session.
