Pakistan is exploring real estate tokenization and digital assets as part of a government push to expand investment opportunities and accelerate the country’s digital economy.

Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) Chairperson Dr. Sohail Munir discussed the potential use of digital assets and tokenization in real estate and other investment assets during a meeting on digital transformation.

The officials discussed the need for an appropriate framework and supporting mechanisms to enable the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including asset tokenization.

The meeting also focused on using digital technology to improve access to finance, simplify financial processes and increase participation in Pakistan’s capital markets.

Digital Platforms to Expand Investment Access

The Finance Minister emphasized the need to update existing frameworks in line with technological advances and emerging business models.

The officials discussed simpler customer onboarding, improved data-sharing and greater interoperability between financial institutions.

Better integration between banks and capital markets was also identified as an opportunity to make investment services more accessible through digital platforms and streamlined account-opening procedures.

The government is also examining ways to improve the interoperability of data across public-sector systems.

Aurangzeb highlighted the potential of connected data, technology and artificial intelligence to improve policymaking, planning and decision-making.

The meeting further covered digital infrastructure for more efficient public and financial services.

Aurangzeb stressed the need for practical and scalable digital initiatives that can improve efficiency, widen access to finance and strengthen Pakistan’s digital capabilities.

The Finance Minister also called for continued coordination among relevant stakeholders to advance digital transformation and support the development of Pakistan’s technology-enabled economy.
