The International Monetary Fund (IMF) review mission is set to begin discussions with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday, with talks in Karachi focusing on inflation, monetary policy, and the exchange rate.
The IMF mission is expected to arrive in Islamabad on September 28 to begin discussions with the Ministry of Finance, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and other ministries for the fourth review of Pakistan’s $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
Top official sources said the mission’s arrival in Islamabad is expected on September 28, provided the situation in the federal capital remains normal.
The upcoming discussions will also include an Article IV consultation, which the IMF staff is conducting after a three-year gap. The last Article IV consultation was held in September 2024.
Under Article IV, the IMF regularly assesses the economic and financial conditions of its member countries and reviews their exchange rate arrangements and economic policies.
The findings of the latest Article IV consultation will be presented to the IMF Executive Board. The findings will then be made public along with the review report after the completion of the fourth review under the $7 billion EFF program.
