The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) will hold an open hearing on August 27 to investigate competition concerns in the real estate sector, including misleading advertisements, hidden charges and false claims about project approvals.

The regulator has invited consumers, investors, developers, builders, real estate agents, industry associations and other stakeholders to share their experiences and concerns directly with the commission.

The hearing follows complaints received by the CCP regarding potentially deceptive and anti-competitive practices in the property market.

The commission said information about a project’s approval status, features, costs and other key details can directly influence investment decisions. Misleading information can result in significant financial losses for buyers and investors.

Under Section 10 of the Competition Act, 2010, businesses are prohibited from using deceptive marketing practices, including false or misleading information that could harm consumers or competing businesses.

The CCP has previously investigated and taken action against deceptive marketing practices in the real estate sector. It said the latest hearing will help identify broader market concerns and gather views from both consumers and industry participants.

The hearing will be held under Section 29(c) of the Competition Act, 2010, which empowers the CCP to conduct open hearings on matters affecting competition. Information presented during the session will be considered while developing the commission’s recommendations.

The hearing will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on August 27 at the CCP office in ISE Towers, Jinnah Avenue, Islamabad.

Stakeholders wishing to participate must register by August 25.
