The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase electricity prices by Rs. 2.52 per unit for one month under the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment mechanism.

The CPPA has submitted its request to NEPRA for adjustment of July 2026 fuel costs. NEPRA will hold a public hearing on the request on August 27.

According to the CPPA filing, electricity generated from diesel cost Rs. 50 per unit in July, while generation from imported coal cost Rs. 54.47 per unit. Power produced using imported LNG cost Rs. 47.37 per unit.

If approved, the proposed adjustment will raise electricity charges by Rs. 2.52 per unit for the applicable billing period. The final increase will depend on NEPRA’s decision after reviewing the CPPA’s request.

Under the Fuel Price Adjustment mechanism, changes in power generation fuel costs are periodically passed on to consumers after regulatory approval.

NEPRA will determine the final adjustment following the August 27 hearing.
