An Islamabad sessions court has sentenced the main accused in the Sana Yousaf murder case to death, along with additional prison time and a fine.
The verdict was announced on Monday by Judge Afzal Majoka, who found Umar Hayat guilty of killing 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yousaf in June 2025.
The court also handed the convict 10 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs2 million.
According to case details, Sana Yousaf was shot dead inside her home in Islamabad on June 2, 2025. Police arrested the suspect a day after the incident from Faisalabad, with investigators initially describing the case as one linked to personal obsession and rejection.
During earlier proceedings, the accused had confessed before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code that he had committed the murder. However, he later withdrew his confession during trial testimony.
The prosecution maintained that the crime was driven by one-sided infatuation and personal fixation developed through online interactions.
The case, involving a teenage social media personality with a large following, drew widespread public attention and renewed debate over the safety of women and online influencers in Pakistan.
