The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked more than 1.54 million online URLs across digital platforms up to July 2026, with YouTube among the platforms receiving the highest number of content removal actions, according to the regulator’s latest platform-wise moderation data.
The PTA reviewed a total of 1,726,303 URLs, out of which 1,542,800 were blocked, 76,874 remained under review, and 106,629 requests were rejected. Overall, the regulator blocked 89.37 percent of the processed URLs.
Facebook recorded the highest number of cases among major social media platforms, with 287,362 URLs processed. The PTA blocked 230,270 URLs, placed 20,321 under review, and rejected 36,771 requests, resulting in an 80.13 percent blocking rate.
TikTok was the second-largest platform by processed URLs, with 195,625 cases. The regulator blocked 170,231 URLs, kept 14,094 under review, and rejected 11,300 requests, giving the platform an 87.02 percent blocking rate.
YouTube recorded 74,823 processed URLs, of which 66,290 were blocked, translating into an 88.60 percent blocking rate.
For X, formerly known as Twitter, the PTA processed 143,670 URLs, blocking 74,236, while 28,359 remained under review and 41,075 requests were rejected. X recorded the lowest blocking rate among major social media platforms at 51.67 percent.
Instagram had 54,335 processed URLs, with 45,510 blocked, resulting in an 83.76 percent blocking rate.
Among messaging and video-sharing platforms, WhatsApp recorded 55,414 processed URLs, with 50,165 blocked, 2,908 under review, and 2,341 rejected, resulting in a 90.53 percent blocking rate.
SnackVideo recorded 8,329 processed URLs, with 7,225 blocked, while Bigo and Likee together accounted for 6,730 processed URLs, of which 6,539 were blocked.
The Others/Miscellaneous category accounted for the largest volume of processed URLs at 899,415 cases. The PTA blocked 891,772 URLs in this category, resulting in a 99.15 percent blocking rate.
