Pakistani and Saudi officials holding diplomatic or official passports will no longer need visas to travel between the two countries under a new agreement signed by Islamabad and Riyadh.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan signed the agreement in New York on September 22 during the 2026 United Nations General Assembly session.

Dar announced the agreement on X, saying the waiver would make high-level engagement between the two governments easier and support greater institutional interaction.

The agreement covers Pakistani citizens traveling to Saudi Arabia with diplomatic and official passports, according to Dar. The arrangement also covers Saudi holders of diplomatic and official or special passports traveling to Pakistan. Dar said the measure would help strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and facilitate cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The agreement comes as Islamabad and Riyadh seek to expand their economic relationship. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said last month that Pakistan wanted to develop its economic ties with Saudi Arabia into a strategic economic partnership.

A Saudi business delegation has discussed investment opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and IT, while Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye have also expanded security cooperation through the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement and its new trilateral committee.
