American officials have already informed Iran through multiple backchannels that President Donald Trump’s public statements about a possible peace agreement are largely aimed at domestic media and political messaging inside the United States, according to statements carried by Iranian state-linked media outlets.

The message reportedly advised Tehran not to treat Trump’s social media posts and public remarks as final policy positions while negotiations continue privately.

The remarks surfaced shortly after Trump claimed that a US-Iran peace agreement could be announced “shortly” and suggested Iran could hand over enriched uranium as part of a future arrangement.

Behind the scenes, talks between Washington and Tehran are continuing as regional mediation efforts involving Pakistan intensify.

Emerging details of a proposed draft memorandum of understanding indicate the framework under discussion could include a 60-day extension of the current ceasefire, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during that period, and permission for Iran to continue oil exports. The draft reportedly also includes partial easing of restrictions on Iranian ports, the release of some frozen Iranian funds, and limited sanctions waivers tied to Iranian oil sales.

The proposed agreement is also said to contain language aimed at ending the Israel-Lebanon conflict, while a separate negotiation track would focus on Iran’s nuclear program.

According to The Kobeissi Letter, the discussions include Iranian commitments not to pursue nuclear weapons and possible negotiations over suspending uranium enrichment. However, it remains unclear whether the removal of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpiles is formally part of the draft arrangement.

The negotiations remain fluid as diplomatic contacts continue across the region.

Separately, Shehbaz Sharif praised Trump’s efforts toward regional peace following a high-level call involving leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkiye, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, and Pakistan.

Sharif said Syed Asim Munir represented Pakistan during the discussions and described his role in the mediation process as important. He added that Pakistan hopes to host the next round of talks in the near future.
