PlayStation users who leave their accounts inactive for three years could permanently lose access to their digital game libraries under Sony’s updated PlayStation Network (PSN) Terms of Service.

The revised policy, introduced in April 2026, allows Sony to initiate the closure of PSN accounts that remain inactive for 36 months.

Before taking action, Sony says it will notify the account holder by email and provide a six-month grace period to either sign in or request that the account stay active.

If the user fails to respond within that timeframe, Sony may permanently close the account.

According to the company’s terms, a closed account will no longer have access to PlayStation Network services or any digital content tied to it, including purchased games, downloadable content (DLC), in-game purchases and other digital entitlements.

The policy also states that once an account has been closed, the decision cannot be reversed, meaning users cannot recover access to their account or previously purchased digital content.

The update highlights the importance of maintaining active access to PSN accounts as more PlayStation users build libraries of digital games instead of buying physical discs. Unlike physical copies, digital purchases are linked to a user’s online account, making continued access to that account essential for playing owned content.
