The Cabinet Division has issued a public disclaimer distancing itself from a housing society that uses its name, saying the project has no official connection with the federal government.

In an official statement, the division said the Cabinet Division Employees Cooperative Housing Society is using the name “Cabinet Division” in a way that may lead the public to believe it is owned, managed, supervised or endorsed by the government.

The Cabinet Division clarified that it has no administrative, financial, legal, operational or any other affiliation with the society, or with any other housing scheme.

The clarification is significant because the Cabinet Division is the federal government’s principal administrative body and functions directly under the Prime Minister.

The statement has also renewed attention on the widespread practice of private and cooperative housing societies using the names of government ministries, departments and public institutions, which can create the impression of official backing.

Property experts say such branding has long influenced investment decisions, with many buyers assuming these projects offer greater credibility because of their association with government entities.

The Cabinet Division’s disclaimer comes after years of housing sector scandals involving fraudulent schemes, disputed land ownership and delayed possession, and serves as a reminder that the use of a government institution’s name does not necessarily indicate official approval, ownership or oversight.
