The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has removed the Secretary Inland Revenue as part of administrative changes linked to enforcement actions against alleged illegal cigarette manufacturing and tax evasion.
According to official and political sources, Choudhary Abdul Rehman has been replaced by Younis Mir, who has been appointed as the new Secretary Inland Revenue.
The decision comes amid continued government action under its stated policy targeting tax evasion and unauthorized cigarette production. Officials familiar with the matter say concerns had been raised regarding enforcement performance and compliance within relevant revenue departments.
Earlier, authorities also reversed a proposed posting for the Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue, Mirpur Circle, as part of a broader review of appointments in sensitive enforcement positions.
Sources indicate that the Chief Minister’s Office has directed stricter implementation of revenue laws and tighter oversight of departments involved in tax collection and regulatory enforcement.
