The Pakistani rupee extended its winning streak against the US dollar on Monday, strengthening for the 196th consecutive trading day in the interbank market.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the rupee closed at 278.0232 per US dollar, improving by three paisas from Friday’s closing rate of 278.0540. If the current trend continues, the local currency could test the 277 level against the dollar later this week.
The rupee has been on a sustained upward trajectory since December 25, 2025, making it one of its longest periods of consecutive gains.
Against other major currencies, the rupee appreciated by 17 paisas versus the euro, 52 paisas against the British pound, and 15 paisas against the Australian dollar.
It also gained 10 paisas against the Malaysian ringgit, two paisas against the Chinese yuan, one paisa against the Saudi riyal, and remained largely unchanged against the UAE dirham, where it strengthened by less than one paisa.
The Canadian dollar was the only major currency to gain against the rupee, rising by 35 paisas during the session.
