The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its gains against the US dollar on Tuesday, closing higher for the 170th consecutive trading session.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan’s exchange rate data, the rupee appreciated by one paisa against the dollar, settling at Rs278.4634 compared to Rs278.4728 in the previous session.
The local currency also posted gains against several major international currencies during the day.
The rupee strengthened by 25 paisas against the euro, closing at Rs324.4098, while it gained 35 paisas against the Canadian dollar to settle at Rs201.1946.
Against regional currencies, the rupee edged up by nearly one paisa versus the Saudi riyal and remained largely unchanged against the UAE dirham. It also recorded marginal gains against the Malaysian ringgit.
However, the local currency weakened against some major currencies. The rupee lost 15 paisas against the British pound, closing at Rs375.1876, while it slipped nine paisas against the Australian dollar to Rs200.0342. It also shed nearly two paisas against the Chinese yuan.
Overall, the rupee maintained its positive momentum against the US dollar while trading mixed against other major global currencies.
