Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including those served by K-Electric, may get relief worth Rs. 63.94 billion after power distribution companies submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority for quarterly tariff adjustments for the first quarter of calendar year 2026.
According to the request, the largest proposed reduction comes from capacity charges, where a decrease of Rs. 36.83 billion was recorded during the January to March 2026 period.
The distribution companies have also sought a reduction of Rs. 11.24 billion under system usage charges and market operation fees.
In addition, the petition includes a proposed cut of Rs. 23.51 billion on account of incremental units.
NEPRA is scheduled to take up the petition on May 19. Following the hearing, the regulator will decide whether the proposed relief will be passed on to electricity consumers.
If approved, the adjustment would provide broad-based relief to power users across the country at a time when consumers continue to face pressure from high energy costs.
