Petrol pump owners have announced an indefinite nationwide strike starting at 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, after negotiations with the government over the proposed daily revision of petroleum prices failed to produce a breakthrough.

The announcement was made by the All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association following talks with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik in Islamabad.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Association Chairman Humayun Khan said petrol pump owners had asked the government to retain the monthly fuel price mechanism and revise dealer commissions. He said retailers were already struggling with rising operational costs and argued that daily price revisions would further complicate business. Khan criticised the government for introducing the policy without consulting stakeholders, alleging that authorities were ignoring the industry’s concerns while misleading the public. Announcing an indefinite nationwide strike from 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, he urged the government to address the issues facing fuel dealers through meaningful dialogue.

Association Vice Chairman Nauman Ali Butt said the government failed to address the industry’s concerns, adding that petrol pump owners do not support the proposed shift to daily fuel price adjustments.

Speaking to the media, Association Chairman Humayun Khan said dealers are demanding a revision in their commission structure and want petroleum prices to continue being reviewed on a monthly basis instead of every day.

He argued that daily price changes would create operational and financial difficulties for fuel retailers, who are already under pressure.

Humayun Khan also criticised the government for introducing the new pricing policy without consulting petrol pump owners, saying the industry had been excluded from the decision-making process.

Following the unsuccessful talks, the association confirmed that petrol pumps across Pakistan would close from midnight and remain shut until the government addresses their demands.
