The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has recorded the highest cargo handling volume in its 138-year history, processing 54.685 million tons of cargo and setting a new operational benchmark for Pakistan’s largest seaport.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the port had surpassed its previous cargo handling record, calling the achievement a reflection of the country’s growing maritime and trade sector.
He said the government is implementing reforms to strengthen Pakistan’s position as a regional maritime and logistics hub. According to the minister, efforts are underway to modernize port infrastructure, improve logistics networks, and attract greater domestic and foreign investment into the maritime sector.
Chaudhry also commended KPT Chairman Admiral Shahid Ahmed and the port’s workforce for achieving the milestone through improved operational performance.
Chairman Admiral Shahid Ahmed said Karachi Port has significantly enhanced its cargo handling capacity, operational efficiency, and administrative performance. He added that KPT will continue investing in modernization and efficiency measures to further increase the port’s competitiveness and support Pakistan’s growing trade volumes.
