The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its gains against the US dollar for the 154th consecutive trading session on Wednesday, continuing its recent upward trend in the interbank market.
The rupee closed at 278.72 per USD, posting a marginal gain of three paisas compared to the previous session.
However, the local currency showed a mixed performance against other major global currencies during the day.
Against the euro, the rupee weakened by Rs. 1.25, while it declined by Rs. 1.59 against the British pound. The rupee also lost value against the Australian dollar, falling by Rs. 2.35, and slipped by Rs. 0.31 against the Canadian dollar.
In contrast, the rupee remained largely stable against Gulf currencies, showing a slight gain of two paisas against the Saudi riyal, while staying almost unchanged against the UAE dirham.
Other movements included a minor decline of Rs. 0.25 against the Malaysian ringgit and a marginal drop of Rs. 0.08 against the Chinese yuan.
