A former senior executive of Samsung has said that global memory chip pricing could see a major correction if Chinese-made DDR5 RAM enters widespread international markets at competitive performance levels.

According to the statement reported by a tech publication, full-scale production and global distribution of China’s DDR5 memory could sharply expand overall supply, potentially reversing recent steep price increases in the DRAM segment and driving a broad decline in worldwide memory costs. In such a scenario, RAM prices in markets like Pakistan could also fall significantly, improving affordability for consumers.

At present, high-performance and gaming-focused RAM remains relatively expensive in Pakistan due to import costs, currency pressures, and global supply pricing.

DDR5 is the latest generation of high-bandwidth memory used in gaming PCs, servers, artificial intelligence systems, and modern data centers. The global DRAM industry is currently dominated by Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Micron Technology.

China is actively developing its domestic memory sector through firms such as ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which is working on advancing DDR5-compatible products as part of its broader semiconductor expansion strategy.

Industry observers suggest that if Chinese manufacturers reach performance and production parity with established global players, increased competition could significantly expand supply and place sustained downward pressure on DRAM prices, potentially reshaping the global memory market structure over time.
