The proposed measures are aimed at addressing growing concerns over child exploitation, obscene material and other crimes committed through social media platforms.
The government is also considering setting a minimum age for social media users as part of the proposed regulatory changes.
The Ministry of Interior will consult relevant stakeholders before finalizing its recommendations. The process is expected to involve federal and provincial authorities, law enforcement agencies and other institutions working on online safety.
Police departments from all provinces have already submitted reports to the Ministry of Interior on cases involving child exploitation, obscene content and other social media-related offences.
These reports will be reviewed as the government develops measures to strengthen oversight of social media platforms and address online offences.
The government is also studying social media regulations implemented in countries including Australia and the United Kingdom.
Officials will examine cases of child exploitation and obscene content reported in Pakistan to identify legal and regulatory measures that could help prevent such offences.
