More than 164,000 Pakistanis were deported from Gulf countries over the past five years, according to official figures presented in the National Assembly on Monday.

The Ministry of Interior informed lawmakers that Saudi Arabia accounted for the highest number of deportations at 108,029 cases. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates with 40,497 deportations, Oman with 9,814, Qatar with 2,971, and Bahrain with 2,779.

The data was shared during a tense National Assembly session marked by opposition protests over restrictions on meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan and concerns regarding access to medical care.

The session, chaired by Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah, saw noisy demonstrations, a sit-in near the speaker’s dais, and an unusual parallel “symbolic assembly” staged by opposition lawmakers led by Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

Speaking during the proceedings, Achakzai accused the government of ignoring opposition demands related to access for the PTI founder and healthcare issues. He warned that the opposition would disrupt parliamentary business, including the upcoming budget process. The opposition later staged a walkout and raised quorum concerns.

Separately, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency also submitted its report, revealing that over 531,000 complaints were received between 2023 and the present period.

The report added that more than 5,700 cases were registered, while around 7,600 individuals were arrested in cybercrime-related investigations over the past four years.

The House also briefly discussed rising private healthcare costs in Islamabad.
