Jewelry markets in Peshawar’s Saddar area observed a complete shutter-down strike on Thursday as traders protested against alleged raids and enforcement actions by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

All shops and business centers remained closed, while traders set up a protest camp on Saddar Road, demanding an end to what they described as harassment of the business community.

According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Jewelers Association, led by President Amin Hussain, jewelers are willing to comply with tax obligations and already contribute significantly to the tax system. However, the association said that surprise inspections and raids were damaging business confidence and disrupting normal commercial activity.

Protest leaders called for a more consultative approach between tax authorities and traders, arguing that aggressive enforcement tactics were creating uncertainty in the market.

Amin Hussain warned that if such actions continue, the protest could be expanded across the province. He maintained that the business community would not accept what it considers excessive or unjustified enforcement measures.

The strike brought commercial activity in one of Peshawar’s key trading hubs to a standstill, with markets remaining closed throughout the day.
