The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) carried out 625 inspections across the federal capital over the last 10 days, imposing Rs. 1.203 million in fines on 59 food businesses and sealing 14 outlets over food safety and hygiene violations.

The figures were shared during a performance review meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Uzair Khan. Officials said four inspection teams conducted enforcement operations across Islamabad to improve compliance with food safety regulations.

During the inspections, the authority issued 387 improvement notices and four verbal warnings to businesses that failed to meet hygiene and safety standards. Officials also acted on 14 public complaints, taking enforcement action against the establishments involved.

The meeting was informed that the authority registered one criminal case and disposed of 3,557 kilograms of unsafe food to stop it from reaching consumers.

Uzair Khan directed inspection teams to respond swiftly to public complaints and ensure uniform enforcement against all restaurants and food businesses without discrimination. He also instructed officials to strictly follow standard operating procedures, including collecting food samples during inspections.

He stressed that violations of food safety standards would not be tolerated and said inspection and enforcement operations would continue across Islamabad to ensure residents have access to safe and hygienic food.
