The federal government has assured that Pakistan has sufficient stocks of petroleum products to meet nationwide demand and directed authorities to crack down on hoarding amid a recent surge in fuel consumption.
The assurance came during a meeting of the National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC), chaired by Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, with participation from the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), OGRA, FBR Customs, and other relevant stakeholders.
Officials were informed that petroleum stocks remain adequate despite an unusually sharp increase in fuel sales during the first 15 days of July, which had raised concerns over supply.
According to OGRA’s assessment, expectations of a possible increase in petroleum prices may have encouraged stockpiling, prompting fears of hoarding.
The NCMC directed OGRA to ensure strict enforcement against hoarding and instructed provincial governments to prevent the practice while ensuring an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country.
The council also directed all relevant institutions to maintain continuous fuel supplies nationwide and closely monitor the market to avoid any disruption.
