Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum) Ali Pervaiz Malik on Saturday defended the government’s fuel pricing policy, saying consumers have received fuel price relief whenever international market conditions have allowed.
In a post on X, the minister said the government is not favoring any particular sector or placing an unfair burden on another. He added that while fulfilling Pakistan’s international obligations, the government remains committed to passing on every possible benefit to consumers.
Malik claimed that, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government, diesel prices have been reduced by Rs. 200 per litre and petrol prices by Rs. 155 per litre.
To support his statement, the minister shared this week’s international Platts benchmark prices, showing petrol falling from $98.35 per barrel on June 22 to $91.68 per barrel on June 26, while diesel eased from $109.09 to $104.79 per barrel over the same period.
| Date | Petrol (MS) (USD/Barrel) | Diesel (HSD) (USD/Barrel) |
|---|---|---|
| June 22 | 98.35 | 109.09 |
| June 23 | 95.23 | 105.02 |
| June 24 | 92.23 | 105.76 |
| June 25 | 90.36 | 105.68 |
| June 26 | 91.68 | 104.79 |
The minister said the government will continue to pass on fuel price relief to consumers whenever market conditions permit.
