The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has approved a huge increase in allowances for its employees, effectively doubling their take-home salaries with immediate effect.
According to an official office order issued on April 16, 2026, the Chief Justice exercised authority under Article 208(b) of the Constitution, along with established judicial precedents, to revise the court’s internal compensation structure.
Under the new policy, all structural employees of the court will receive a Judicial Allowance equal to 50 percent of their running basic pay. In addition, a Utility Allowance amounting to another 50 percent of basic salary has also been introduced. Combined, the two allowances result in a total increase equivalent to 100 percent of employees’ basic pay.
The order states that the financial impact of the decision will be managed entirely within the court’s existing budget allocation for the fiscal year 2025–26, meaning no additional funding from the federal government will be required.
The development has attracted attention as it comes at a time when Pakistan continues to implement fiscal discipline and cost-containment measures amid economic pressures, inflation, and rising utility costs nationwide. Notably, the pay revision was implemented without any reported objection from the federal government or oversight institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The allowance increase takes immediate effect and is aimed at strengthening employee welfare and institutional efficiency within the court system.
