The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will bring 18 industrial sectors under its tax monitoring system by December 31, 2026, as the government steps up efforts to increase tax collection.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on FBR reforms, where officials reviewed the progress of the monitoring system and preparations for its rollout across different industries.
According to the briefing, the system is already in place in the sugar, cement, tobacco, tiles, and fertilizer sectors.
Equipment procurement has been completed for textiles, packaged water, packaged juice, and packaged milk, where installation work is in progress.
The government plans to complete equipment purchases for the steel, poultry, and tire sectors by October 15. Procurement for tea, domestic electronics, leather, paper and board, and oil and ghee is expected to be completed by October 30.
The monitoring systems across all 18 sectors are scheduled to become fully operational by the end of this year.
The meeting also reviewed the government’s progress in improving tax enforcement. Officials said enforcement measures had generated an additional Rs. 1.3 trillion in tax revenue over the past three years, marking a 40 percent increase in collections.
Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the team that assessed the productive sectors and presented its findings on their readiness for the monitoring system.
