The government wants cybersecurity awareness and digital education to become a stronger part of learning in Pakistani schools, colleges and universities, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said on Thursday.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of Cybersecurity Awareness Week, Tarar said Pakistan needed to develop policies and regulations that could keep pace with rapidly changing technology.
He said students should learn how to identify fake news, recognize online threats and protect themselves against cyberattacks. Updating educational curricula to reflect the growing role of digital technology was also necessary, he added.
The minister called for greater cooperation among government departments and other stakeholders to improve public understanding of cybersecurity.
He said training programmes and awareness campaigns should reach citizens across the country, enabling them to identify digital risks and respond appropriately.
Tarar stressed that young people needed to be included in efforts to improve Pakistan’s digital security.
He said protecting the country’s future required preparing the next generation for the challenges of an increasingly connected world, where digital safety has become an important concern for families, institutions and businesses.
