The National Assembly and Senate Secretariats have introduced new austerity measures, including work-from-home arrangements, a 50 percent cut in fuel for official vehicles, and a ban on new vehicle purchases.

Under the new measures, half of the National Assembly Secretariat staff will work from home. Senate Secretariat employees will have the option to work from home only on Fridays, while office attendance will remain mandatory from Monday to Thursday.

Employees working from home will not receive daily allowances or overtime payments, according to the notification.

The two secretariats have also cut fuel allocations for official vehicles by 50 percent as part of efforts to reduce spending and conserve fuel.

Official events have been completely banned under the new austerity measures.

The purchase of new vehicles for both the National Assembly and Senate Secretariats has also been prohibited.

The notification further calls for a 5 percent cut in non-development expenditure, with spending to be reviewed and reduced on a monthly basis.

The purchase of durable goods has also been banned, except for IT-related items.

Government foreign trips have been completely banned for three months under the new measures.

Official dinners have also been prohibited, except those held for visiting foreign delegations.

The measures are aimed at reducing government expenditure and saving fuel as part of the ongoing austerity drive.
