Dubai crude has moved sharply above Brent, putting additional pressure on diesel prices in Pakistan.

Dubai crude was trading at $123.6 per barrel on September 11, compared with $104.4 for Brent. This put Dubai crude around $19.3 per barrel, or roughly $20, above the Brent benchmark.

The gap marks a major reversal from June and July, when Dubai crude was trading below Brent for most of the period.

The shift is important for Pakistan because high-speed diesel (HSD) pricing is linked to Dubai crude prices published by Platts.

This means a sharp increase in Dubai crude can push Pakistan’s diesel costs higher even when the rise in Brent appears more limited.

The current Dubai premium could therefore add further pressure to domestic HSD prices, increasing the cost burden on consumers and businesses that depend heavily on diesel.
