Pakistan’s refineries produced an average of 7,035 tons of petrol per day during July-September 2026, against daily sales of 21,583 tons, highlighting the country’s reliance on supplies beyond domestic refinery production.

The figures were presented in a written reply to the Senate, showing that local production met only around 33 percent of daily petrol sales during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027.

The gap was narrower for high-speed diesel (HSD). Refineries produced 14,065 tons per day, compared with daily sales of 16,866 tons.

Province-Wise Petrol and Diesel Production

Punjab recorded the highest petrol production and sales, producing 4,670 tons per day against sales of 14,827 tons. Its daily diesel production stood at 7,608 tons, while sales reached 10,779 tons.

Sindh produced 1,592 tons of petrol daily and sold 4,567 tons. Its diesel production was higher than sales, at 4,419 tons per day against 3,662 tons.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded daily petrol sales of 2,127 tons and diesel sales of 2,355 tons. The Senate reply did not report any petrol or diesel production for the province.

Balochistan’s reported daily petrol production stood at 773 tons, compared with sales of 62 tons. Its diesel production reached 2,038 tons per day, while reported sales were 70 tons.

Pakistan Continues to Import Crude Oil

According to the Senate reply, local refineries use both domestic and imported crude oil to produce petrol and high-speed diesel.

Pakistan’s crude oil imports increased 12 percent to 2.78 million tons during July-September 2026, reflecting the continued role of imported crude in meeting the country’s refining requirements.

Separately, petroleum product sales fell 2 percent year-on-year to 1.35 million tons in September.
