The United States will reassess its proposed $1.25 billion financing package for Pakistan’s Reko Diq copper and gold project after updated project costs are finalized, US Embassy officials told ProPakistani.

The officials said the mine remains on track for development, although work is progressing more slowly than originally anticipated as the project’s financial requirements are being revised.

Once the revised cost estimates are completed, the project developers will present an updated financing plan to lenders, including the US Export-Import Bank (EXIM), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and other financial institutions for further discussions.

Pakistan had earlier approved an investment of $6.7 billion for the first phase of the Reko Diq project, one of the country’s largest mining developments.

The officials said the proposed EXIM financing remains part of the broader funding plan and will be evaluated alongside the revised project package before any final commitments are made.

Reko Diq is considered one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper and gold deposits and is expected to play a key role in boosting Pakistan’s exports, attracting foreign investment, generating foreign exchange earnings, and supporting long-term economic growth once commercial production begins.
