Pakistan has reached an understanding with Iran to ensure safe transit for at least one Qatari LNG cargo through the Strait of Hormuz, allowing the shipment to continue its journey toward Karachi, Bloomberg reported.
The LNG vessel successfully crossed the strategic waterway on Thursday, while the arrangement may also facilitate the movement of future cargoes through the route.
The move comes as heightened tensions around the Strait of Hormuz have created uncertainty for global energy trade, with the passage serving as a critical route for oil and LNG shipments.
Pakistan imports a significant portion of its LNG requirements from Qatar to support electricity generation, industrial activity, and domestic gas demand. Ensuring uninterrupted shipments through Hormuz is considered crucial for maintaining energy supplies and avoiding additional pressure on import costs.
