Lahore Traffic Police will begin taking legal action from July 1 against public transport vehicles operating without mandatory QR panic buttons and other required security features.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said rickshaw operators, taxi services, online ride-hailing companies, and other public transport providers have been directed to complete installations before the deadline. Vehicles found in violation after June 30 will face enforcement action.

To support the campaign, traffic police have established 45 installation points across Lahore and deployed dedicated teams in every traffic sector, including 12 teams assigned specifically to rickshaws. More than 6,000 rickshaws have already been fitted with QR panic buttons.

The CTO also announced the opening of four additional licensing centres to facilitate vehicle owners following requests from rickshaw unions.

To obtain a QR panic button, vehicle owners must present a valid driving licence, vehicle registration documents, and proof that all outstanding e-challans have been cleared.

According to the traffic police, the initiative is aimed at improving passenger safety by enabling faster emergency response and vehicle tracking, while also strengthening traffic management and security standards across Lahore’s public transport network.
