Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a one-month extension of the fuel subsidy scheme benefiting motorcyclists along with public and goods transport operators, in a continued effort to provide relief to lower and middle-income groups.

The decision has been taken in light of ongoing economic pressures and rising fuel costs, with the government aiming to reduce the financial strain on commuters and transporters.

As part of the directive, the prime minister has also ordered authorities to ensure that fares for passenger and freight transport remain unchanged, so that the benefit of the subsidy is directly passed on to the public.

He stressed the importance of strict monitoring of the subsidy program to prevent misuse and ensure that only eligible individuals receive its benefits. The federal government has been instructed to work closely with provincial administrations for effective implementation.

Officials noted that a substantial national relief package, worth billions of rupees, has already been introduced to support citizens amid difficult economic conditions.

Reaffirming his stance, the prime minister said that easing the burden on ordinary citizens remains a key priority, adding that the government will continue such support measures while hoping for improved regional stability to help stabilize fuel prices.
