The federal government is gearing up to introduce a targeted loan scheme for nine million small farmers in the upcoming 2025-26 federal budget, aiming to support those owning up to 12 acres of land.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the development of a comprehensive agricultural support package. Under this initiative, small farmers will be able to access loans from commercial banks on easy terms, easing their financial burden and promoting growth in the sector.
The scheme has already been finalized by commercial banks, with key features presented to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The minister is expected to brief the prime minister on the details soon. A pilot phase of the program is set to launch in September this year.
Beyond accessible financing, the package will also focus on educating small farmers about modern agricultural techniques.
