The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released the results of its Independent Quality of Service (QoS) Survey conducted in 17 cities across the country during Q4 2024. The survey aimed to evaluate the performance and quality of services provided by Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) to their customers.
According to the survey, Zong and Jazz emerged as the top performers across most key performance indicators (KPIs), while Telenor ranked the lowest in several categories. Ufone also performed well, securing second or third place in many areas.
Key Findings of the Survey
The QoS survey assessed CMOs on various parameters, including Voice Quality, Mobile Broadband (Download and Upload Throughput, Latency, and Web Browsing), and Short Messaging Service (SMS). The survey involved extensive testing, covering approximately 2,270 km per operator over 64 days, with 0.33 million mobile broadband tests and 46,000 voice and SMS tests conducted.
While CMOs achieved encouraging compliance levels with KPIs set in their licenses and regulations, the survey highlighted deteriorating internet and network issues throughout 2024, which impacted overall performance.
