The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its winning streak against the US dollar (USD) to 208 consecutive trading sessions on Wednesday, appreciating by three paisas to close at 277.8217 in the interbank market.
The local currency has remained on an uninterrupted upward trajectory since December 25, 2025, although the pace of appreciation has slowed considerably in recent weeks.
A currency trader told RBN that the rupee has been advancing by only 1–3 paisas in most recent sessions, while several trading days have ended with little or no movement.
“The easy gains are largely behind us. As the rupee strengthens, each additional gain becomes harder to achieve unless economic fundamentals improve further,” the trader said.
According to the trader, if the current trend continues, the rupee could strengthen to around Rs. 276 per US dollar by September or October 2026. However, he cautioned that external risks, particularly renewed geopolitical tensions or pressure on Pakistan’s external account, could delay that milestone until late 2026 or early 2027.
Other Currencies
The rupee also strengthened against most regional currencies on Wednesday, gaining two paisas against the UAE Dirham (AED) and remaining virtually unchanged against the Saudi Riyal (SAR).
However, it weakened against several major global currencies, losing 73 paisas against the Euro (EUR), four paisas against the British Pound (GBP), and 26 paisas against the Canadian Dollar (CAD).
Meanwhile, the local currency posted its biggest gain of the day against the Australian Dollar (AUD), rising by 70 paisas.
