United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s longstanding role in UN peacekeeping missions, thanking the country for its continued contributions to international peace and security during a meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in New York.
The meeting took place at the United Nations Headquarters, where both sides reviewed the regional security landscape and discussed a range of global issues.
A key focus of the discussions was Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to help ease conflicts in West Asia, along with its extensive participation in UN peacekeeping operations. Guterres acknowledged Pakistan’s enduring support for UN missions and praised its contribution to maintaining peace in conflict-affected regions.
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan has consistently worked to promote regional stability and protect human lives despite evolving security challenges, adding that these efforts have been carried out under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He also emphasized that United Nations peacekeeping missions can only succeed when they are backed by clear mandates and sufficient resources.
The meeting underscored Pakistan’s continued engagement with the United Nations on peacekeeping, regional stability, and broader international cooperation.
