The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has confirmed that the SEA-ME-WE 5 international submarine cable system has been restored, with internet traffic returning to normal across the country after disruptions that affected users since Thursday night.
According to PTA officials, the restoration of the SMW5 cable has resolved the connectivity issues, and all internet services are now operating as usual.
The disruption was caused by a fault in the SMW5 submarine cable, which affected a significant portion of Transworld Associates’ international IP transit capacity.
During the outage, internet traffic was rerouted through alternate international links to minimise service degradation while TWA coordinated with the SMW5 Consortium to restore connectivity.
The PTA said it remained in close coordination with TWA and other stakeholders throughout the incident, while continuously monitoring the situation to support the earliest possible restoration of services.
With the SMW5 cable now fully operational, internet services across Pakistan have stabilised and traffic has returned to normal.
