The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has rejected a fake notification circulating on social media that claims mobile device taxes can now be paid in installments, clarifying that it has issued no such directive.
In an official clarification, the PTA said the notice being shared online is false and misleading, and advised the public not to rely on unverified information.
The authority said the assessment, levy and collection of taxes and duties on mobile devices fall exclusively under the jurisdiction of the Federal Board of Revenue. It added that the PTA has no role in determining, announcing or collecting such taxes.
According to the regulator, its role is limited to the registration and compliance management of mobile devices through the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System.
The PTA further said the only recent public advisory issued by it relates to scheduled maintenance of the DIRBS, during which certain services may remain temporarily unavailable.
It urged citizens not to share or act on unverified claims circulating on social media and to seek authentic information only through the PTA’s official channels.
