The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has resolved long-standing issues affecting the Barite Lead Zinc Project in Khuzdar, clearing the way for a planned $200 million strategic investment in one of Pakistan’s major mineral development projects.
The project has remained on SIFC’s priority agenda since December 2023 and is being developed by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in partnership with Bolan Mining Enterprises (BME). PPL serves as the project operator and holds a 50 percent working interest.
Located in Balochistan’s mineral-rich Khuzdar district, the project has estimated reserves of 69 million tons and is expected to remain operational for around 34 years.
Officials estimate that the mine could generate annual revenues of $150 million to $230 million, while supporting mineral exports, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to economic activity in the province.
According to SIFC, the council facilitated the settlement of pending mining lease issues, allowing the project to enter the implementation phase. A major development came with the signing of the Operational Agreement during the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025.
The government said the project reflects SIFC’s role in removing investment barriers, improving the business environment, and accelerating development in Pakistan’s mineral sector.
Officials added that the initiative is expected to strengthen investor confidence and support long-term economic growth through increased mineral exploration and exports.
